Harmony and Hoops is part of the global effort, NConcert4Autism, to extend peace and uplift individuals and families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autism is a developmental disability that causes substantial impairments in social interaction, communication, and physical activities. People with autism have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, and reacting to sensations. The prevalence of autism is 1 in 88 children in the United States; 1 in 54 boys. Those with autism face life-long challenges and are often the victims of violence and apathy.
Harmony and Hoops, then, is designed to raise autism awareness and generate funds to support NConcert4Autism and the benefiting charities. Athletes, actors, recording artists, and others will not only participate in a competitive game, but also meet, encourage, and listen to children and families living with autism. Through compassionate gamesmanship, players will create a symphony of peace and understanding. Harmony and Hoops is one of NConcert4Autism’s global Peace Day activities.
